Places One Has Never Visited

India first came to me on a postcard, which depicted a hatted snake-charmer luring a snake from its basket on the streets of Bombay. I was more or less seven and a glamorous aunt, an air hostess who would handle us with tales of her adventures in exotic places while the rest of Ireland was mirthfully trotting off for a week in Wexford every year, had tell the postcard. Since then, India has captivated me. When I see myself at the Taj Mahal, I recollect solitude and a serene silence, non the hoards of snapping, yack tourists, who would of necessity surround me. The vivid colours of India arrest my imagination. Who could not make love the explosions of gold, crimson, fuschia, turquoise, cerise, emerald and ochre on womens saris? not to mention the basins of spices, which call for the markets with colours and aromas. India is said to be an plunder on the senses.
